How Do You Compare and Select the Best Web Host for You?

A website should be hosted by a server so that it will be visible on the internet. Some things that you need to consider are the following:

  • The operating system that you will use
  • The type of hosting features that you need
  • The server’s location
  • Taking into consideration the past and present customers’ views and if they are satisfied with the service
  • The Control panel you want to use
  • And many more

In the next section, I will go more in-depth about the things that I’ve mentioned just now so that you will know how to select the best web hosting provider for you.

Operating System

For you to come up with a server, you need to have a reliable computer and it can run on either two of the most popular operating systems: Windows and Linux.

Linux seems to be the better choice since it is running on Apache for the web server, PHP and Perl as the main programming languages of choice, and MySQL for databases. Because of the way the operating system handles pretty much any type of script, you are given the choice and the freedom to do whatever it is that you want.

However, if you are going to make use of ASP pages and you prefer using Microsoft’s own SQL server protocol, then you may need to use a server that has a Windows operating system in it.

Hosting Features

When it comes to hosting, there are plenty of different types out there. There is shared hosting, virtual private servers, dedicated hosting, reseller hosting, and colocation.

If you are going to choose the best web hosting service for you, you are going to stick with the one that has the features that you truly need.

For instance, if you value bandwidth and storage options, then you want to opt for that one since there are plenty out there that have all of the bases covered already.

If you want more shared hosting features, you may want to get either shared web hosting or resell web hosting for that matter.

If you want the best possible set of features, then getting a dedicated web server is the best option for you. However, keep in mind that this option is also the most expensive one, so you may want to think about your finances if you are going to go for this option.

Technical Support

When it comes to reseller hosting or shared hosting, you are pretty much the one who is going to manage the server and install whatever there is to install to be able to launch the service.

If you opt for virtual dedicated hosting, then the service is mostly unmanaged which means that there will another entity or company who’s going to manage that for you.

Customer Feedback

Lastly, you also want to consider what other people have said. Getting reviews is pretty easy nowadays since the internet is pretty much ubiquitous at this point.
